Breed Standard
Standard Blue Rex
Type
Well proportioned and graceful carriage, the body sloping gently up to well rounded quarters, set on strong hing legs of medium bone. Head should be bold and broad. Ears should be erect and in proportion to size of the body. A dewlap on the does should not be excessive.
Coat
The coat should be approximately half an inch in length. It should be of a fine silky texture, free from harshness and wooliness, intensely dense, smooth and level over the whole body, of a lustrous sheen, firm and plush-like character and to be devoid of any projecting guard hairs.
Colour
The colour should be a clear, bright, medium shade of blue (not lavender) throughout, from tip of fur to skin, extending to but not including toe nails. A brown tinge is a fault. Toe nails should be horn colour. White toenails are to be treated as a minor fault. Eye colour should preferably match the body colour.
Weight
The ideal weight for a standard Rex to be 2.72- 3.62kg (6-8lb).
There is no weight disqualification for any age Standard Rex rabbit.
Faults
Narrow wedge shaped head, drooping ears, bare pads (patches of feet that are devoid of fur but skin unbroken). Bare, thin or curly nape of neck. White hairs or black hairs. Lack of density in the coat. Harsh, wavy, wooly or curled coats. Adults over or under weight. White toe nails are to be considered a minor fault.
Disqualifications
Poor health, putty nose, white patches, crooked legs, excessive dewlap, sore and broken skinned pads. Speckled, wall or odd coloured eyes.
